Certification in Regulatory Compliance (Malaysia)

Course level : Level 4 - Intermediate

Please note that this course is not mapped in accordance with the levels set within the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This certification is designed for those who wish to possess an understanding of the complexities surrounding the regulatory environment. Compliance risk is a major concern for businesses, and it’s compounded by an increasingly complex regulatory environment with hefty penalties imposed on firms that fail to comply.

 You will learn how excellent regulatory compliance management protects your firm, as well as enhances its competitive advantage. You will also understand what it takes to be a good compliance officer as well as compliance best practices. You will develop a practical understanding of compliance and the prevention of financial crime and equip yourself with all of the knowledge you will require to begin or further a career in compliance.

Using an immersive scenario to bring knowledge to life, you will practice your skills in compliance risk management and under the guidance of the facilitator, enhance your ability to better manage compliance issues relating to your firm. You will be asked to review and assess information relating to the scenario and make judgement-based decisions during the workshop. There will be group discussions and activities to explore the rationale behind decisions made, discuss on best practices and the chance to learn from other participants.

You will gain knowledge applicable in the country where you work, as well as being internationally relevant. This course gives you the specialist knowledge and practical skills to manage regulatory risks today and in the future.

  • International bodies and standard setter and their influence
  • National regulatory framework and the role and powers of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)
  • Different regulatory approaches and their methodology
  • Role and responsibilities of both the compliance function and the compliance officer, and the skills needed to successfully discharge these
  • Implementation of key compliance activities plus awareness of different types of financial crime

 

This is a 4-month programme with a total of 14.5 hours of virtual classrooms. The course will commence with an Orientation Session which includes Assessment Guidance information conducted by ICA and the Chief Examiner. This is followed by 3 sessions of virtual classrooms, an immersive learning scenario and tutorial, as well as an assessment and examination best practice preparation workshop.

  • A mixture of guided online study and participation in live sessions:
    • 3 x 3-hour virtual classrooms
    • 1 x immersive learning scenario (putting you at the centre of a story) and tutorial
    • 1 x assessment and examination best practice preparation workshop
  • Videos covering the latest industry developments and case studies
  • Access to the ICA members’ portal containing additional reading and resources
  • Proactive support throughout the course to help you stay on track

  • One 1 hour and 45 minute open book examination
  • One 2,000-2,500 word assignment 
  • New graduates from any discipline
  • Those wanting to build a career in compliance in the fields of:
    1. Banking
    2. Insurance
    3. Other financial services
  • Staff involved in risk functions and internal or external audit
  • Anyone with less than 3 years of experience in compliance or anti–money laundering (AML)

Applicants for the programme must:

  • Be an individual member of AICB
  • Have a good general education (i.e. SPM or O Level)
  • Have the ability to complete the reading and written aspects of the programme in English

You will be awarded dual Certification:

  • Certification in Regulatory Compliance by AICB
  • ICA Advanced Certificate in Compliance (International) awarded in association with Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester
