Experienced Practitioner route to Professional Membership (MICA)

 

This route is available to those who:

  • possess 10 years practical experience at a mid-senior level in an appropriate discipline
  • currently are employed, at a mid-senior level, within a relevant field
  • can provide evidence of competence at a mid-senior level by providing a body of existing work for review eg. proof of contributions to:
    • policy
    • procedures
    • marketing/communications materials
    • training materials
    • internal or external reports
    • thought leadership, or similiar types of work
  • provide references attesting to competence, good character and personal integrity
  • satisfy an ICA panel by way of an interview as to standing, seniority and competence
  • there may be an interview by telephone or skype of candidates if any item of evidence require further clarification.

In more general terms, senior management responsibilities refers to obligations at a mid-senior level where the individual has developed a high degree of expertise as a compliance practitioner or in a related area; such as an auditor. 

The one off fee for this route is £565 ( this includes £400 for the evaluation and £165 first year's membership).  

In order to apply you will invited to upload your evidence in the form of your CV, a body of work (documents can only be uploaded in Word or pdf format) and two references (template to complete here). You will need to pay a £50 non-refundable administration fee that will be deducted from your final fee should your application be successful. On receipt of your application your evidence will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and the outcome communicated to you within 14 days at which point we will arrange to collect the remaining fee.

Experienced Practitioner route to Fellow Membership (FICA)

 

This route is available to an individual who can demonstrate the following:

  • possess at least 5 years experience in a strategic senior-level role, such as Chief Risk Officer, Head of Compliance or Director of Compliance
  • has undertaken a range of functions performed within a compliance discipline
  • is in a specialist role
  • has senior management and supervision responsibilities
  • has strategic responsibilities
  • has tactical accountabilities
  • possesses a high degree of individual leadership, judgement, decision-making and risk-management skills
  • works in a non-routine,unpredictable and complex environment
  • shows developed and extremely high levels of experience and competency
  • is a proven thought leader both within their firm and in the wider compliance community (or a related area)
  • satisfy an ICA panel by way of an interview as to standing, seniority and competence

In more general terms, strategic management responsibilities refers to obligations at board, c-suite or similar level (e.g. reporting directly into board committees, or in larger institutions, the regional or country equivalent). Necessarily, the individual should have at least 10 years in a senior management role working at a strategic level.


There is a one-off cost of £995 ( which includes your first year membership fee of £195) to become a member at this level. In order to apply you will invited to upload your evidence in the form of your CV, an organisation chart demonstrating your position in the organisation, a body of work (documents can only be uploaded in Word or pdf format) and two references (template to complete here). You will need to pay a £50 administration fee that will be deducted from your final fee should your application be successful. On receipt of your application your evidence will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and the outcome communicated to you within 30 days, at which point we will arrange to collect the remaining fee.
