Experienced Practitioner route to Professional Membership (MICA)

This route is available to those who:

  • possess 10 years practical compliance experience at a mid-senior level (E.g. Compliance Manager) in an appropriate compliance discipline
  • currently are employed, at a mid-senior level, within a relevant compliance field (E.g. Compliance Audit)
  • can provide evidence of competence at a mid-senior level by providing evidence for review e.g. proof of contributions to:
    • policy & procedures
    • compliance initiatives/projects
    • compliance training materials
    • thought leadership, or similar, such as written articles, or speaking slots
  • provide references attesting to compliance competence, good character and personal integrity


Fees

£750* (a £50 non-refundable administration fee is payable upfront, but this will be deducted from the £750 membership fee should your application be successful) *VAT may be applicable

On receipt of your application your evidence will be submitted to the Experienced Practitioner panel. We anticipate that a typical application will take around 6-8 weeks and you may be contacted several times during that process if further clarification is required. You might also be invited to an interview by telephone or skype with one of the panel members in a situation where a collective decision has been unable to be reached by the panel based on your submitted documents

Experienced Practitioner route to Fellow Membership (FICA)

 

This route is available to an individual who can demonstrate the following:

  • possess at least 5 years’ experience in a strategic senior-level compliance role, such as Chief Risk Officer, Head of Compliance or Director of Compliance
  • has undertaken a range of functions performed within a compliance discipline
  • possesses strategic leadership, judgement, decision-making and risk-management skills
  • is a proven thought leader both within their firm and in the wider compliance community (E.g. member of compliance association, contributing to compliance journals, speaking at events, LinkedIn postings)

In more general terms, strategic management responsibilities refer to obligations at board, c-suite or similar level (e.g. reporting directly into board committees or in larger institutions, the regional or country equivalent). Necessarily, the individual should have at least 10 years in a senior management role working at a strategic level.
