The International Compliance Association (ICA) announces the launch of a new qualification, the ICA Advanced Certificate in Managing Sanctions Risk. The course has been created to meet a growing demand for a practically focused course examining the global sanctions architecture in a political, legal and implementation context and how to develop an effective control framework.
The Advanced Certificate, which is awarded in association with Alliance Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester, is designed for those already working in a sanctions role who want to certify their knowledge and those who want to further explore sanctions risk management. The ICA Advanced Certificate in Managing Sanctions Risk uncovers the intricacies and challenges of meeting sanctions obligations, the latest challenges and best practices, and includes case studies that explore risk management frameworks. The course will also investigate key areas of sanctions controls such as sanctions screening, managing alerts and sanctions evasion typologies.
Dr. Justine Walker, Director Financial Crime (Sanctions and Bribery) BBA and Principal Author of the course, said:
“The implementation of sanctions has now become a key foreign policy tool of U.S., E.U. and like-minded countries. From fighting terrorism to protecting human rights, countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to territorial aggression, sanctions are often the first security response to global crises. This has created an extremely complex network of sanctions regimes that vary in their design, scope and implementation requirements. The course emphasises the inter-linkages between various regimes, where they differ and the common financial sector implementation challenges. The text extensively draws upon current real life compliance case studies and is supported by contributions from a range of leading industry experts.”
Pekka Dare, ICA Technical Advisory Board Member and Head of Training and Education at International Compliance Training, ICA’s training partner, said: “Managing sanctions risk has become a key focus for firms as they respond to a rapidly changing geopolitical and legal environment. The demand for experienced and qualified sanctions professionals is white hot. This new programme will equip practitioners with a combination of practical and technical skills, exploring issues around the key international and national sanctions regimes and the implementation of an effective control framework. The course will also explore the application of law and regulation to case studies and scenarios to provide insight into best practice in managing the range of complex sanctions related issues facing firms today.”
The ICA Advanced Certificate in Managing Sanctions Risk is available through ICA’s training partner, International Compliance Training, and can be studied online or with the addition of two highly interactive workshops being offered in London and other key centres later in the year. The course can also be delivered in-house for firms wishing to train their sanctions teams.
