About Compliance Apprenticeship Standards

Compliance Apprenticeship Standards from ICA

ICA’s mission is to inspire, educate and enable the global community of compliance specialists to perform to the highest standards of professional practice and conduct. To further support this we have been working with leading employers to develop new apprenticeship standards and assessment in the areas of compliance and risk.

Apprenticeship Standards have been designed to meet the needs of employers, learners and ATPs. They aim to:

  • Give employers control in designing apprenticeships
  • Increase the flexibility of delivery
  • Simplify the funding system
  • Increase the effectiveness of training

As part of these apprenticeship standards, apprentices can complete an ICA qualification. We've partnered with a number of approved training providers from the Register of Apprenticeship Training Provider.

Financial Services Compliance/Risk Officer (level 3)

The Financial Services Compliance/Risk Officer (level 3) apprenticeship programme is typically 15 months in duration and will provide the training needed for providing support and advice to the business on their specific area(s) of expertise (e.g. financial crime), enable them to support the business on specific problems that emerge and working on reviews/audits to check that policies are being correctly applied.

As part of the apprenticeship standard, the apprentices will  will complete one appropriate qualification (as considered most relevant by the employer) from one of the identified Professional Bodies. The ICA qualifications you can study for this standard are:

Apprentices will be graded at Fail, Pass and Distinction grades. The Distinction is designed to recognise the small proportion of apprentices who are seen as outstanding employees, regularly going beyond what is required to be competent in the role and seen as having greatest potential for the future.

End-Point Assessment Structure

End-point assessment contains 2 components:

  • A portfolio of evidence created through the apprenticeship which contains a range of types of evidence demonstrating that the apprentice has met the requirements of the standard, supported by a professional discussion.
  • A structured Interview that focuses on the skills and behaviours of the Standard, testing the competence of the apprentice in the softer aspects of the role.

Grades & Certification

At the end of the apprenticeship standard, successful apprentices are awarded with Pass or Distinction. ICA will arrange for production of the final certificate from the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and they will be invited to attend an ICA Awards Ceremony.

Professional Membership

Apprentices who are undertaking their end-point assessment with ICA will be made members of the ICA following registration. Upon successful completion the apprentice can apply for Professional Membership of the appropriate Professional Body depending upon the qualification taken. Find out more about ICA membership here.
