10.15     Keynote - From CEO to whistle-blower: Inside the Olympus scandal

Speaker: Michael Woodford, author, Exposure: Inside the Olympus Scandal: How I went from CEO to Whistleblower

Michael Woodford will share his gripping story about being the newly-appointed CEO of Olympus who found that nobody was telling him the truth. Michael will address the exposure of the scandal, the crash in the share price, and the entire board’s resignation. We’ll explore lessons learned from his experience in respect of governance, information flows and transparency, whilst also highlighting the human elements which underpin strong compliance.

12:00     Keynote - After a crisis: Learning from what went wrong at Wonga 

Speaker: Bill Flynn, Group General Counsel, Wonga

In the years since Wonga underwent a massive ‘reset’, what can we learn from the company’s missteps and subsequent recovery? In this session Bill Flynn will share Wonga’s story of rebuilding and growth after the FCA authorisation, including a rehabilitation in perception which saw them become the UK ‘s 2nd most improved brand (2015).

12.30     Keynote (via video link from New York) - Demonstrating the real value of effective compliance

Speaker: Richard Bistrong, contributing editor of the FCPA Blog and CEO, Front-Line Anti-Bribery LLC

Richard will talk about his journey concerning bribery and compliance and share challenges from the front lines of international business. Richard pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one count of Conspiracy to violate the FCPA, before working as a Confidential Human Source and Cooperating Witness for the United States Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation). He also served with the City of London Police, HM Revenue and Customs and the Crown Prosecution Service in a covert and cooperating capacity. Through Richard’s story we will look at the impact of compliance when things go wrong.
