The International Compliance Association (ICA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Ryan as its new Chief Executive and Sally Scutt as Strategic Advisor.
Phil joins the ICA with a strong background in both professional education and banking – including senior leadership and non-executive director experience in compliance, anti money laundering (AML) and risk mitigation.
His most recent role was as Director of Executive Education at Canary Wharf Executive Development Centre, where his focus was on the banking and finance industry. He has previously directed the prestigious Chartered Banker MBA programme at Bangor Business School which focussed on re-professionalising the international banking industry. Prior to that, Phil’s career included 30 years holding senior leadership positions in major banks and building societies.
Phil takes over from Bill Howarth who has been Chief Executive since the association was formed in 2001. Bill remains at the ICA in his new role of Life President.
Phil had this to say about his appointment:
“I am looking forward to working with the superb team at ICA to develop the membership offer to the next level and to grow the number of highly regarded, qualified practitioners further still. We know that the work done by the ICA is particularly embraced by banks (and other financial institutions) who recognise the crucial importance of continuous professional development and globally recognised qualifications in their key regulatory priorities.”
Bill added:
"Phil is an excellent addition to the ICA family given his passion, knowledge of the financial services industry and expertise in working with and developing professional associations. I am looking forward to working with him to take the ICA to new levels."
Sally Scutt also joins the ICA as Strategic Advisor, focussing on regulatory matters and strengthening the association’s links with industry and key international bodies. Sally has more than 30 years' experience in international and private banking. Most recently she was Deputy Chief Executive of the British Bankers' Association and Managing Director of the International Banking Federation. She has been a member of a number of government committees in relation to financial crime matters and was Chairman of the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) which manages and develops industry guidance on the implementation of AML and other crime related law and regulation.
Sally had this to say about her new role:
“I am delighted to be working with the International Compliance Association. The regulatory environment for compliance professionals is very challenging. I believe the ICA is well placed to help individuals and firms achieve the professional standards to which they should aspire. I’m looking forward to helping them in this task."
Bill added:
“Given Sally's vast experience, subject matter expertise and industry profile, she will add gravitas and strength to the ICA as the association drives a new, exciting pathway to benefit its members over the next few years."
