CPD Regulations

What is CPD?

CPD means the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skills and the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional and technical duties throughout the compliance practitioner’s working life. In certain jurisdictions CPD is known as Continuing Professional Education (CPE) or Lifelong Learning.

Requirements of the scheme

Every professional member or Fellow (member) to which these regulations apply shall complete and record in each year of their membership 15 hours of approved CPD/CPE activities.

Approved activities

Discounted CPD events

ICA has arranged discounts for ICA Members to attend a range of courses and events from recognised providers. For more information click here .

Recording CPD Hours

Members must submit their annual CPD record online. You will need to log in to the ICA website and then click on 'CPD Record'

Members who fail to comply with any part of the CPD regulations will be in breach of their obligations to the Association, which may result in disciplinary action.

Suspension of the Regulations

Members who are not in employment due to:

  • illness
  • unemployment
  • maternity leave

may suspend the CPD requirements whilst they are out of employment. It is not necessary to make a formal application to the ICA, but the reason for the suspension and the dates should be entered onto the member’s CPD record. Members are expected to resume CPD when the situation giving rise to the suspension ends.

Members required to undertake CPD with other Professional Bodies

The ICA recognises that many of its members are members of other professional bodies. These bodies have their own CPD schemes for members. It is possible therefore, for members to ‘double count’ CPD completed through that body towards completion of the ICA CPD obligation provided all the other conditions of the ICA scheme are met.

Failure to comply with CPD Regulations

Failure to comply with CPD requirements is a breach of ICA regulations. It constitutes misconduct that will be referred to the Executive Committee who may require that an appropriate disciplinary hearing be convened.
