Mentor Scheme:
A mentor is ideally, though not necessarily, a person who is experienced in the area of work that is being studied, e.g. colleague or friend, with whom the delegate can discuss their work and progress. The mentor’s function is to give encouragement, motivation, help and guidance throughout the duration of the course. Your nominated mentor should be able to offer you informal support and be a good motivator. It would be helpful if they have studied a similar course or have experience in the subject being studied.
Ideally, the mentor and student should:
- Outline a study plan, for example, the duration of the course, the amount of work to be done and so on
- Discuss the format and date of the examination
- Identify the specific areas where help is required i.e. explaining complex terms, reading assignments, testing the student’s knowledge
- Try to arrange regular meetings and agree an agenda in advance
